Prerequisites
PREREQUISITES:
The policy on prerequisites [Senate approved 11/15/89] does not limit the ability to set restrictions on enrollment in courses; rather, it clarifies the kind of restriction the the Senate will consider in its review of new and changed courses.
- The Senate will be responsible only for course prerequisites (limited to three). All other kinds of prerequisites or restrictions will be managed by the department or college controlling particular courses. Such restrictions may appear in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs as well as in the Time Schedule within the technical and publishing limitations of those publications.
- The prerequisites that the Senate legislates are limited to those fixed course
prerequisites that are meant to apply to all sections of a course and remain
permanent features of the course.
The following chart outlines the range of possible types of restriction, the Senate review policy, and representation in publications. School/College and departmental curriculum committees should keep these distinctions in mind when sending new and revised courses to the Senate committee and when planning for registration.
