Minutes for September 11, 2002 A meeting of the University Senate was held at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday,11 September 2002, in Maxwell Auditorium. Present were: Chancellor Shaw; Senators: Anderson, Armstrong, Backx, Barth, Bennett, Bernard, Biklen, Bogucz, Boroujerdi, Brown (H.), Brzozowski, Burdick, Caldwell, Cavanagh, Cihon, Clark, Cooper, Cote-Arsenault, Crowston, Dayton, de Berly, Diaz, Donovan, Dudczak, Easton, Floyd, Flusche, Freund, Gates, Gilman, Gorovitz, Graham, Graves, Greenberg, Heydweiller, Himley, Hinchman, Hogn, Horacek, Horwitz, Hovendick, Johnson, Kelly, Kinsey, Kosar, Lagay, Letterman (M.), Letterman (R.), McGee, Maroney, Martin, Massey, Murphy, O'Rourke, Peck, Pellow, Perdue, Rosenzweig, Rubinstein, Schell, Schiff, Schwarz, Seale, Siow, Smith, Spencer, Spina, Trento, Tucker, Tussing, Van Gulick, Waddy, Wadley, Wasylenko, Watts, Wilbur, Williams, Zacharia, Zaima. Presiding Officer: Chancellor Kenneth Shaw The Chancellor called the meeting to order, welcomed senators, and said that the day's business was mainly committee organization followed by a reception in the foyer, but that there was a report from the Agenda Committee as well as a brief report from the Committee on Honorary Degrees, which included a nomination. The Chancellor called on Prof. Nahmin Horwitz, Chairman of the Agenda Committee, to give the committee's report, which included a motion to approve the changes in committees listed in the report of the Subcommittee on Nominations, as follows:
The motion carried. Professor Horwitz announced that there would be a meeting of all committee chairs at 4:00 p.m. on October 14th in the Bartlett Room, Newhouse II. The Chancellor called Judy O'Rourke to present a report from the Committee on Honorary Degrees, which included a nomination for an honorary degree to be awarded at the Martin Luther King dinner in January. He asked all non-senators to leave the auditorium during the disucssion and vote, and then afterwards to report to their respective committees. The motion to approve the nomination carried. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
